How to Play Word Ladder

Word Ladder is a classic word puzzle invented by Lewis Carroll in 1877. The goal is simple: transform one word into another by changing just one letter at a time, with each step forming a valid English word.

The Rules

1. You start with a word and need to reach a target word.

2. Each move, you change exactly one letter to form a new valid word.

3. You cannot reuse words you've already played.

4. Try to reach the target in as few steps as possible!

Example

Transforming COLD into WARM:

Game Modes

Daily Puzzle

A new word pair every day. Everyone gets the same puzzle — compare your score with friends! Try to find the shortest path between the two words.

Blitz

You have 60 seconds. Chain as many words as possible, each one letter different from the last. No target word — just keep building your ladder as fast as you can.

Endless

No timer, no target. Just keep climbing until there are no more valid moves. How long can you make your ladder?

Tips & Strategy

Think ahead — sometimes the obvious next move leads to a dead end. Common letters like S, T, R, and E open up more possibilities. In Daily mode, a shorter path means a better score, so consider multiple routes before committing. In Blitz, speed matters more than elegance — go with your first valid idea.
